The Soapy One has decided it was the right thing to do to get an expedited licence for a cold process, antimicrobial soap with limited ingredients.
We are not interested in making profit from the current situation, but we appreciate that the Beanie Boat could have a small but vital part in supporting our community. We have kept the cost to you at a minimum and any profit from this soap will help towards the cost of making further donations out into the community.
We have now donated over 250 soaps (and knitted bits) to the community and will continue to do this for as long as there is a need.
This soap sits quietly curing for nearly 4 weeks and there will only ever be about 16 from each batch.
So why is this soap so special?
Soap is naturally antimicrobial by its nature of action - it is cleansing by the physical action of washing and rinsing, thereby removing surface contamination, and it has surfactant properties that are chemically damaging to microbes.
ALL handmade soaps exhibit these properties and are vital in terms of the increased hygiene requirements during the current outbreak.
It makes sense, however, that the instant sanitising effect of soap can be augmented by the further addition of naturally derived agents that stay on the skin, even after rinsing to provide additional protection between washing.
Our personal choice of antimicrobial agents is a combination of Lavender and Tea tree essential oils, 3% total. When we wash our hands, it's estimated that approximately 1% of the product stays on the skin - in terms of essential oils, the simple proof of this is to just smell your hands after washing.
It is made using a simple but effective Cold Process recipe containing 100% Natural food grade oils and butters. Cold Process is the slowest most time-consuming way to make soap but this is the most favoured way to craft excellent bars of soap. Back when everyone had to make their own soap, this was the traditional way to make it.
Palm Free and Vegan friendly.
Free from parabens, preservatives, PEG and artificial colourants and perfumes.
As a small artisan business one of our main aims includes finding sources that are as environmentally friendly as possible. We recycle as much as we can on the boat and on our travels as well as trying to use minimal packaging, with what we do use being recycled. We do have to seal the soaps, so have done so in a thin compostable wrap. We hate plastic and are diligently looking for sustainable bags for popping in the post that will still allow your goodies to arrive in the condition you expect them to be, dry and perfect.
Care for your soap : What? Care for soap? Are you kidding? No, you've spent good money on this, it smells amazing, and it's made with beautiful, natural ingredients and untold hours of love - you want it to last.
Keep it dry. Nobody likes a soggy soap. Your soap is happiest when allowed to dry out fully between uses. The easiest way to do this is to keep it on a soap dish which allows water to drain away and air to circulate. Pop a nice bamboo soap dish into your basket here.
Keep it cool. Your special soap is made from natural essential oils and will retain its scent if it's kept in a cool place ... although let's be honest, if you're in the UK that shouldn't be a struggle.
Allergens: With our desire to be as natural as possible, your soap is fragranced with natural essential oils. If you have an allergy to these oils, please contact us for allergen information and advice on alternative soaps.
Safety: For external use only, keep away from eyes. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.

Just a couple of short (?) bits about the two gorgeous essential oils in this soap :
Lavender essential oil
In the world of essential oils, lavender is far and away one of the most popular across the globe. It has many proven benefits, which include relieving stress and anxiety, reducing nervous tension, and decreasing pain. It is also used for skin and hair care purposes like disinfecting the scalp, boosting hair growth and preventing acne breakouts. Moreover, lavender oil helps in enhancing blood circulation and helps against respiratory problems. Lavender has antibacterial and antiviral qualities that make it perfect for defending the body against rare diseases like TB, typhoid, and diphtheria, according to early research in the 20th century. According to dermatologists, lavender essential oil is one of the most beneficial oils against acne.
Tea tree essential oil
Tea tree oil was discovered thousands of years ago by the Australians due to its healing qualities; it can fight all kinds of infectious and bacterial diseases. Hence it was also called a cure-all medicine. Tea tree essential oil is anti-bacterial, anti-septic, insecticide, balsamic, anti-microbial, fungicide, sudorific and an excellent stimulant. Additionally, it helps in relieving muscular pain and sprains. It also treats coughs, cold, bronchitis and other respiration problems. It is also a great natural remedy for acne.
